ABOUT THE TEAM
We’ve Got Team Spirit
2022 was the year Old Grovians had to pull out of league rugby, but rather than let 14 years of success as a group and individuals disappear, we have decided to join the 7s circuit for 2023.
We will just be playing in the UK to start with, but then who knows.
Don't write off the OG's just yet, we think there a more stories to be told and a new legacy to be created in the open and social category.
The Plan
Old Grovians rugby club has decided to pivot itself from the 15 aside game to becoming a touring 7s team.
Our intent is to continue to play an exciting brand of rugby that reflects the club's background and as such we would like to have two teams
Open – The aspiration for this team is to be able to compete and win tournaments.
As always with Old Grovians, we hope very much it will include a large proportion of ex-Woodhouse Grove players, but as with the 15s, we will always be inclusive and have players playing that have not been to the school
Social – The Social team will be made up of players trying to push into the Open team and
players who want to continue to be part of the club, enjoy the day or weekend of rugby playing
competitive social 7s.
Year 1
The tournaments are currently being finalised as not all dates have been communicated out by the organisers as yet, but we are looking at four local tournaments and two that would require an overnight stay (likely to be camping)
All the entrance, kit, some spending money etc will be provided by the clubs this year.
These are the tournaments currently under consideration:
• Ilkley
• Jungle 7s Leeds
• Olney
• Cheltenham
• Chester
Year 2 and Beyond
If Year 1 is successful, and we get the buy-in we need, we will enter two teams in the Majorca Beach 7s.
The intent would be flights and basic accommodation would be funded by OG 7s.
Then if momentum continues to build, we will consider entering two teams in the Dubai 7s in 2025 on the same basis
